Who has to pay individual taxes?
U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents: must report and pay taxes on worldwide income
Nonresident Aliens: must pay U.S. taxes on U.S.-source income
Resident Aliens: must pay taxes on worldwide income if they possess a Green Card or pass the Substantial Presence Test
Children and Dependents: may be required to report and pay taxes if certain income limits are reached
Deductions and Credits
Taxable income can be reduced by standard or itemized deductions or tax credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit or Foreign Tax Credit.
